Sense and French Ability

Sense and French Ability

Sense and French Ability

After the death of her mother, freed of her nursing duties and full of grief, Fliss Summer found herself needing a change.

Her steady and solid career in the finance sector was beginning to bore her almost as much as her ‘pleasant’ relationship with colleague Edward – an affair distinctly void of passion.

Throwing caution to the wind, and with a little nudge from her exuberant good friend Jo, Fliss takes a holiday in France reminiscent of her youth.

Travelling to the small but charming village of Fleurus-le-Comte, staying in the bed and breakfast of the elderly Madame Altier, Fliss soon finds herself immersed in a wondrous French culture.

She meets Harriet, a fellow Englishwoman abroad, and begins to understand the vast benefits of escaping England permanently.

When she meets local farmer Jean Christophe, Fliss is overwhelmed by how arrogant and conceited he appears to be.

So why does he have the power to make her face flush and her stomach turn each time she meets him?

Is he holding a dark secret, to do with his marriage to the polite and quiet Maryl?

Fliss befriends his brother and sister-in-law, and their charming daughter Melodie, overwhelmed by her joy and beauty.

With her love for Fleurus-le-Comte growing, Fliss endeavours to fit in with the locals, but finds stumbling blocks in the form of long-established feuds.

Can she see herself as a permanent member of the little French community?

And – more importantly – will they happily embrace Fliss?

With Madame Altier growing older, she is looking for someone to take over her business.

Could this be the chance that Fliss is looking for, or is she being reckless?

Determined to try, Fliss’ stay becomes extended as her relationships with those around her grow deeper.

Her feelings for Jean Christophe and Edward are in constant fluctuation, and Fliss is not at all sure how to handle her romantic dilemmas.

Does she belong in France or England?

With a little sense and French ability, Fliss begins to work through her problems, and embrace the shape of her new future.

Little does she know, there are more sinister troubles brewing in the underbelly of Fleurus-le-Comte, that are set to change the lives of everyone forever…

‘Sense and French Ability’ is a moving story of different cultures…and different loves.

‘A wonderful read.’ – Robert Foster, best-selling author of ‘The Lunar Code’.
