The Franklin was in the hands of men who were capable and resolute,and being liberally sustained throughout the State, it has steadily grown in theconfidence and favor of the people. It is now firmly established, and is making goodprogress toward the front rank of Life Insurance institutions. The assets nowamount to more than 0,000, and the annual income is over half of that sum. Thecompany has paid over ,000 to the widows and orphans of its deceased mem-bers; and as it has been managed with great prudence and economy, the dividendshave been large—aggregating more than ,000. The number of new policies issued in 1870, was four hundred and twenty-three;and for the present year, the indications are that more than double that numberwill be issued. In 1868 the company purchased the building so long occupied by the old StateBank, where it has very pleasant and commodious offices.
