A by no means in-considerable number of negroes are acquiringproperty, building better houses, and adopting im-proved methods of farming. Many negroes oncetenants have bought portions of the farms wherethey formerly worked. For example, take DealJackson, a Georgia negro cotton grower, who everyyear for seven years past has beaten every one of the110,906 white farmers of his State in getting thefirst bale to market.
