Nathaniel Dyment was born at Exeter, Devonshire, Euglanil, December ^i.)l.1832, and came to Canada with his parents when he was three years old. He livedwith his father in Peverlev Township, Wentworth (Onnty, until he was sixteen yearsof age. He began business for himself at that age by purchasing a big pine tree,which he felled himself and had taken to the mill; as he made money he pnrcha.sedmore pine, and from hunber ama.ssed a large fortune and renuuned in this business upto the time of Ins death. His first contract was with the (ireat Western Railway,sn|)])lving them with the entire output of his mill at Linden.

Never let the key go out of your possession unless to some responsible person, for the purposeof giving an Alarm, or when called for by the Superintendent. Alarms are sounded by strikmg the Number of the Box upon the Alarm-bell, upon theGongs in the Engine-house, and upon the small bells in the Signal-boxes. For mstance: An Alann is given from. Box 10, M^hich is at tlie Duquesne Engine-house,—theGongs and bells will strike simultaueoiisly one blow, and pause; then six blows—l—C—16, and sorepeat until sufficient alarm has been given. Keys will be found with Policemen and at the places designated on Page 30, near the Sig-nal-boxes.
